Technically Beaujolais is a sub-region of Burgundy but it is often classified as its own region because they use the Gamay grape rather than Pinot Noir. The region is famous for its light, easy-drinking red wines, such as Beaujolais Nouveau which is released on the 3rd Thursday in November. In comparison, Cru Beaujolais, such as Fleurie, Morgon and Brouilly, produce wines with more depth and complexity.
