Bonkers Chardonnay 2.0, Sugrue South Downs
Description
Bonkers is the result of a blend of Chardonnay from the near perfect 2022 vintage which was very lightly oxidised, with fruit from the equally excellent 2023 and 2024, made using the Solera system. The blend was aged in large, old French oak barrels and the end result is a beautifully creamy yet refreshing Chardonnay, multi-dimensional and structured with oak - perfect with food and for mid-term ageing. Despite its interesting full name - Bonkers Zombie Alien Monsters from the Future Ate by Brain (Sur Lie), this wine is a beautifully crafted, serious wine that offers drinkers a unique, complex and delicious example of what can be crafted in this country.

Is Sugrue England’s best sparkling wine? Obviously tastes are personal and vintages vary, but the consistently high scores and rave reviews achieved for each wine released suggest that it is certainly a contender for that title. Regardless Dermot is one of the most talented winemakers working in the UK today.
