JP & B Droin Chablis Grand Cru Valmur

The Valmur is a powerful wine, with bundles of energy. The oak is arguably more prominent at this youthful stage suggesting it needs more time to age, but the brooding minerality beneath the veneer is unmistakable and hints at a wine with great potential. There is substantial concentration and complexity thanks to subtly spicy, gunflint notes. This needs time but will reward 5 years in the cellar.

Benoît Droin may have a youthful appearance but he speaks with the wisdom that can only come from generations of Chablisien know-how being passed down by a combination of intuition, osmosis and hard-work. This is a man who takes the longterm view and has a clear idea of what he is trying to achieve from which we can only assume that his goal is terrific wines of purity, elegance and accessibility. Combine this with some great value pricing and these wines will continue to bring enormous pleasure to all who encounter them.
